Surrendering to God’s Will: Finding Peace in the New Year

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, our hearts are often filled with anticipation, resolutions, and dreams. We make plans, set goals, and strive for success. However, amidst our aspirations, there lies a profound invitation from our Heavenly Father – an invitation to surrender our will to His divine plan.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and to resist the temptation to rely solely on our own understanding. God’s ways are higher than ours, and His plans often unfold in ways we cannot fathom. Surrendering to His will requires a willingness to trust beyond our comprehension, acknowledging that His wisdom far surpasses our own.

In surrendering to God’s will, we find a profound peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). It is the peace that comes from knowing that we are held in the palm of His hand, guided by His infinite wisdom, and cradled in His unending love. This peace is not dependent on circumstances but is anchored in the unchanging nature of our faithful God.

The call to surrender is not a selective one; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. As we embark on this new year, let us submit every area – our dreams, plans, relationships, and even our fears – to God. Submission is an act of humility, acknowledging that our Creator knows what is best for us. It is an act of trust, believing that God’s plan is far greater than anything we could orchestrate on our own.

Prayer Points:

1- Heavenly Father, in this new year, we come before you with open hearts, ready to surrender our plans and desires to Your divine will. Help us trust in You with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding.
2- Lord, grant us the peace that surpasses all understanding as we surrender to Your will. In the midst of life’s uncertainties, help us find solace in the knowledge that You hold us in the palm of Your hand.

3- Merciful God, as we submit ourselves to Your will, we earnestly seek Your guidance. Make our paths straight, just as Your Word promises. Illuminate the way before us, that we may walk in alignment with Your perfect plan.

Confession:

1- Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have relied solely on our own understanding, neglecting to trust in You wholeheartedly. We confess our tendency to lean on our wisdom instead of Yours.

2- Lord, we confess any anxiety or fear that hinders our complete surrender to Your will. Forgive us for the moments we have allowed worry to overshadow the peace You offer. Help us release our burdens at Your feet, trusting that You are in control and working all things for our good.

3- Gracious God, we acknowledge our struggle to surrender every area of our lives to You. Forgive us for selectively submitting certain aspects while holding onto others. Teach us the beauty of holistic surrender, recognizing that Your plan is all-encompassing and designed for our ultimate well-being.

Conclusion:

As we surrender, Proverbs 3:6 assures us that God will make our paths straight. In relinquishing control, we discover that God’s direction is the surest way to fulfillment. It may not always be the easiest path, but it is undoubtedly the one leading to abundant life. Our Heavenly Father, who loves us beyond measure, is faithful to guide us, protect us, and bless us as we surrender to His will.

  1. It’s like this verse was calling me to read it, Giving completly of onesself is a true testimony to faith. I remember taking a walk of faith from a job that paid me so well. I remember the internal battle I had in my mind, thinking how was I going to pay my bills or feed my family. But God keep sending me signs to take that walk and I did. When they say he will guide you, that’s so true. The Lord made a way for me and I have never looked back.
